Description
The Senior Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Professional develops, implements, and monitors company programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations. Work assignments are varied and frequently require interpretation and independent determination of the appropriate courses of action.
Responsibilities
The Senior EH&S Professional performs periodic safety inspections, interacts with a variety of businesses, and may conduct training or present to large groups of associates. Recommends corrective action where environmental health and safety hazards exist. Influences the Safety & Security department's strategy and goals. Makes decisions on moderately complex to complex issues regarding technical projects, and work is performed with little direction. Exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments. Interacts with other associates in Humana Safety and Security (HSS) to coordinate and manage projects within both disciplines.
In support of Humana's goal of promoting lifelong well-being, the Senior EH&S Professional is directly accountable and responsible for the successful delivery and oversight of EH&S including:
Maintaining working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other applicable codes and requirements, at both the federal and state levels.
Providing guidance, leadership, and support to business operations to help ensure associate safety and compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements and Humana EH&S policies and programs.
Communicating with business leadership and staff to facilitate implementation of safety and security programs and processes and enhance the safety and security of our associates.
Functioning as an EH&S subject matter expert (SME) for internal stakeholders.
Assessing risks and safety program performance.
Developing and implementing appropriate needs-based written programs, procedures and policies.
Primary domain specialties include: Associate safety, environmental, security, emergency management, and construction project safety.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree, CSP, or equivalent experience in environmental, health, and safety
5 or more years of experience managing compliance programs
Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences.
Must be committed to a healthy, safe and secure, work and home environment.
This is a home/office hybrid position. Qualified candidates will be home based however, must have the ability to work in one of our Humana Offices in the Louisville area up to 1-2 days per week.
