This position is responsible for both HR and Safety at this location. This position works with all departments to develop and enhance a culture of consistent safe behavior and Team Member retention and engagement. This position serves as a subject matter expert to ensure compliance with Safety & Health standards, as well as HR policy, procedure, and law. In addition, this person must observe, track, and complete activities with employees, to reduce and eliminate work related injuries and accidents to support our safety and sustainability goals.
This person must maintain comprehensive filing system for documents pertaining to compliance with OSHA. The Safety manager will serve as the location representative for Health and Safety.
HR primary duties are as follows:
Training Development Plan - Facilitate and coordinate with the various department heads internal as well as external management supervising the entire location. Ensure that all required annual training be completed such as EEO and Ethics Compliance. Ensure compliance and practices of the company’s basic upward and downward communication vehicles to promote a work environment of trust and Team Member goodwill.
Turnover Retention Improvement - Ensure exit interviews of hourly and salaried personnel are conducted properly. Assist local management in the implementation of retention initiatives focused on enhancing orientation and job training processes. Coordinate and communicate with local management any recommendations for developing people management skills in line supervisors. Gather and analyze turnover retention and absenteeism data.
HR Audit - Audit the HR functions to ensure that the location is in compliance procedurally and consistently with our policy and practices guidelines. Review, discuss and make recommendation to facility management on ways to correct any issues forthcoming in the audits.
Recruitment - through succession planning identify future salaried or clerical needs within the location and plan recruitment activities accordingly. Ensure that the location has an Hourly Staffing Model in place and recruit and staff the location accordingly. Ensure recruitment strategy for all positions is reviewed including diversity needs for the complex.
Community Relations - Ensure the promotion of Tyson people stories and activities throughout the community with respect to economic imprints. Serve in local service organizations to promote Tyson Foods through volunteerism within the local community and encourage other members of management to do the same.
Investigations - Conduct thorough investigations of all Team Member complaints. Provide follow-up to HR Directors and other department heads regarding complaint issues. Maintain a written record of all complaints. Ensure that the electronic spreadsheet log for Peer Review Grievances is updated and current at all times.
​ Safety Responsibilities are as follows:
Ensure Compliance with OSHA standards plan and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, federal (OSHA) rules and regulations
Be an active part of the team to plan, direct and implement organizational safety programs and initiatives.
Conduct proactive, action- based programs to reduce or eliminate work related accidents or injuries.
Ensure, communicate and facilitate safety related training.
Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, reporting any nonconformity.
Assists with and train supervisors on proper accident investigations for all work- related injuries and provide reports to local and upper management.
Performs all job site analysis, determine employee exposure, and assist in developing safe work policies, procedures and inspection report forms.
Performs new hire safety orientation training.
Monitors safety work orders and helps ensure completion of those items.
Publish safety audit tracking form which includes audits, cross audits, audits done with hourly employees, positive reinforcement, unsafe acts and unsafe conditions.
Maintains and updates all safety records such as: injuries, illnesses, safety statistics, authorized safety training, using spreadsheets, graphs, charts and presentations as required.
All other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred. PHR or SPHR certification a plus and/or Safety Professional Certification.
Experience: 4 plus years HR/Safety management experience preferred. Strong knowledge of safety, health laws, regulations. Strong knowledge and experience with leading Machine Guarding, LOTO, Fall Protection programs.
Special Skills: Strong problem-solving skills, data driven with and affinity for data management and organization. Conducts Risk Analysis and Coordinates Actions to remove or mitigate issues. Ensures reporting and response to governmental agencies are met and business interest are protected. Broad knowledge of HR field; working knowledge of HR laws and regulations Team Member benefits safety and health concepts; strong labor relations experience. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Computer Skills: Basic computer skills; for example, generating simple letters spreadsheets and creating simple queries. Experience with SAP and Workday preferred.
Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills to present ideas and concepts to diverse audiences from front-line to plant leadership level. Must be very organized and maintain all safety records. Must be detail oriented with a high level of accuracy.
Travel: 1 to 5 trips per year.
Supervisory Experience: Supervisory experience preferred.
