The role reports to the RE Regional HSE Manager EMEA, and will be part of a Regional HSE Team of 11.

What’s the role?

This is a client-side role, primarily a remote/ home worker with a requirement to travel 30% of the time to support Project Managers and the EMEA Real Estate (RE) Commercial Deals and Projects team, who conduct commercial deals and complete construction and refurbishment projects (non-hydrocarbon).

This role will be based in any of the following countries -- United Kingdom, Netherlands or Germany.

This role is responsible for:


Support the Commercial Deals and Projects (CDP) Manager and CDP team to deliver good HSE (Health, Safety and Environment) performance and raise awareness in the CDP team (as well as specific projects), planning for continuous improvement.
Provide coaching on HSE leadership and help develop competency of Shell RE Project managers (PM’s) and support partner PM’s around safety management

Support projects to implement the RE Management of Construction and Refurbishment Projects Process i.e. Support projects across the full lifecycle: pre-qualification of contractors, incl. creating tender materials, visit bidding company projects, contractor selection, facilitate risk management processes through design and construction, gap analysis of contractors standards, on-boarding, mobilisation, audit/ monitoring & handover.

Supporting PM’s to develop and execute HSE audit/ assurance plans
Ensure Safety in Design process in place and support with input to design our risks
Work with other HSE specialists supporting projects in other regions to achieve standardisation where appropriate
Connect with other Shell Business stakeholders to communicate and resolve HSE issues
Drive behavioural safety and culture change programs
Support Project teams to manage contractor’s performance in line with contract requirements

Ensure coordination procedures are in place/ effective to support the safe delivery of work by a number of different contractors during projects
Pro-actively work to identify, lead and monitor sustainability actions for projects (e.g. waste, water reduction) and improvement opportunities for the CDP team
Support data gathering, reporting and performance management, provide reports to CDP Manager/ PM’s.
Develop/ maintain a strong relationship with teams operating Permit to Work/ work authorisation procedures during projects
Support/ facilitate Management of Change Processes
Lead or support incident investigations as required
Present virtual and in person presentations to project teams and large virtual communities across the EMEA Region.
Standardize best practices and share with regional teams and counterparts, drive continuous improvement in the CDP team.


What we need from you?

We are keen to hear from Higher education Safety and Health qualified professionals with experience in a construction company/environment and HSE Manager role. Beyond that, we’d hope to see the majority of the following areas touched by your past experience:


Proven experience working virtually to steer/ influence/ direct others successfully
Excellent soft skills/ stakeholder management
Has strong experience of fire safety systems, mechanical/ electrical work, working at height, hot works, confined space working, lifting operations, asbestos management.
English verbal and written skills
Confident presenter/ trainer, communicator

A clear proven track record of delivery, self-starting with the ability and courage to initiate and manage change.
Passionate about personal development
Experience communicating at senior manager and ‘shop floor’ level. Confident to provide high support and high challenge.
External outlook – ability to spot relevant external trends and translate these into opportunities and responses internally
Hold people to account for delivery of commitments by setting smart and joint targets with contractors and encouraging right behaviours.
Member of a professional HSE governing body/ organisation is desirable
