Oxbow Calcining LLC is currently looking to hire a Safety Coordinator to join our team in Port Arthur, Texas. This position will be responsible for leading and driving the execution of all components of the health and safety strategy and management system for the facility. Aligns facility goals and objectives consistent with the business unit and corporate expectations. Communicates the importance of health and safety. Supports company health and safety objectives, policies, and procedures, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations. Responsible for administration of the health and safety programs in the facility in accordance with OSHA.
Position Description:
Ensures H&S practices, training, program elements, materials, and equipment meet or exceed regulatory standards and company mandated best practices.
Coaches and trains the plant management team and other site employees on all health and safety standards and practices.
Responsible for preparation and presentation of information for management meetings, as required.
Works as a resource to operational leaders on health and safety issues.
Serves as a daily facilitator and overseer of the execution of company health and safety programs.
Maintains current knowledge of all company health and safety standards, applicable regulations including CFRs and consensus standards, and best practices.
Maintains systems of identifying hazards and hazardous actions and helps implement corrective actions with the assistance of operational leaders.
Develops and maintains reports for tracking health & safety metrics.
Leads accident/incident investigations, including cause analysis and developing corrective actions.
Conducts site audits, task observations, and facilitates safety meetings.
Responsible for the overall development, implementation, and delivery, and tracking of health and safety training.
Interfaces with Corporate EHS departments and EHS managers in other business lines to facilitate company goals and objectives.
Assists with training of new employees on a baseline of appropriate H&S topics.
Establishes goals and objectives for each year and monitors and routinely advises on progress.
Plans, executes, and evaluates site emergency action drills and exercises.
Assists with medical treatment logistics and administration for injured employees as needed.
Supports management with special projects, workflow process improvements, cross-departmental teams, ISO, and other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
Bachelors of Science degree or other educational qualification with specialization in health & safety preferred.
Minimum five years of experience in an occupational health & safety role.
Knowledge and/or experience with industrial manufacturing or chemical industry preferred.
Knowledge of various Safety Management Systems.
Communicates clearly and concisely in a variety of communication settings and styles. Effectively tailors the message according to the audience.
Establish goals and objectives which are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-based.
Ability to prioritize, plan, and organize many tasks.
A strong commitment to safety is important in order to promote a positive attitude regarding safety and health among facility employees.
Proficiency in writing, computer and software knowledge, and presentation skills are necessary for preparing company documents and presenting information to all levels of employees.
Technical understanding of safety and loss control management system processes.

Physical and Other Requirements:
Daily work activities may be highly variable.
Sitting or standing is possible for extended amounts of time, possibly using a computer.
Will be required to perform work in an outdoor manufacturing environment, which may include extreme working conditions, inclement weather, and work at heights.
As needed, lifts, carries, or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 35 pounds.
Required to move about the facility in vehicles and on foot to coordinate activities.
Ability to communicate or exchange ideas in both written format and verbally. Skilled communication is necessary in order to impart information to company employees, vendors, contractor employees, public officials, and others.
Work may require occasional weekend, evening, and/or on-call work.
Must be able to travel as needed.
